Sentinel Honoured to Be Nominated for The Earthshot Prize
We are thrilled and honoured to announce that Sentinel has been nominated for The Earthshot Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious environmental awards. This recognition is a significant milestone for our team and a powerful acknowledgement of the impact our WellSentinel™ technology is making in the global effort to combat climate change and protect our oceans.
At the heart of this nomination is WellSentinel™, our passive subsea monitoring system designed to detect underwater leaks without the need for external power sources or data links. In contrast to traditional monitoring solutions, which often depend on regular vessel-based inspections, WellSentinel™ operates entirely autonomously beneath the sea.
This autonomous functionality dramatically reduces the frequency of offshore trips, helping operators avoid up to 400 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions per unit over a 10-year period. That’s not just a step forward in operational efficiency; it’s a meaningful contribution to the global transition to a low-carbon future.
WellSentinel™ has already been deployed in a range of challenging marine environments, including in the UK, USA, Australia, and Brazil. In each location, it’s helping clients enhance safety, reduce environmental risk, and improve the sustainability of their offshore operations.
Additionally, we’re continuing to extend the capabilities of WellSentinel™. One of the most exciting developments is its adaptation for use in monitoring offshore carbon storage sites, a critical element of long-term climate change mitigation strategies. This expanded application demonstrates the technology’s flexibility and reinforces its potential to support a wide range of climate-positive initiatives.
Being recognised by The Earthshot Prize is more than a proud moment, it’s a validation of the vital role that clean technologies can play in solving environmental challenges. The Prize’s mission to “repair and regenerate the planet” aligns perfectly with our commitment to using innovation to deliver meaningful, lasting impact.
We're especially grateful to Scintilla and The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) for nominating us. Their support and belief in our mission have been instrumental in getting us to this point.
As we continue to scale and develop WellSentinel™, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in subsea monitoring. Our goal is to empower the energy industry and other offshore sectors to transition toward more sustainable, lower-emission practices without compromising safety or performance.
We're incredibly proud to be part of a global movement working to protect our environment and achieve Net Zero goals. And while this nomination is a moment to celebrate, it also boosts us for the work ahead.
